Put some Soul in your bowl! Soul Purpose serves up your favourite soul, Motown and R&B tunes, with a mix of today's hits, too. Originally formed by a group of physicians and a lawyer, they were aptly named  "Malpractice".  They have been performing around Vancouver for over twenty years and have performed at venues such as The Yale Hotel ("Vancouver's Home of the Blues") and The Commodore, as well as The Boulevard Casino and River Rock Casino. They have played at most major hotels, including The Bayshore, Vancouver Hotel, Waterfront Hotel, Vancouver Sheraton Wall Centre, Sutton Place Hotel, Pan Pacific Hotel and Canada Place. They have also performed at out of town venues such as The Empress Hotel in Victoria, The Harrison in Harrison Hot Springs, The Marriott Grand Okanagan Resort in Kelowna, and The Fairmont Chateau in Whistler to name a few. Soul Purpose also makes sure to give back and has supported worthy causes including the galas for the Langley Hospital Foundation, Zajac Nights at the Terminal City Club and the Children’s Wish Foundation - performing at their Doc’s Rock and Doc’s Blues fundraisers for the past 20 years. They have also performed at various outdoor festivals and were closing act at Golden Spike Days on Canada Day a few years ago.

 

Soul Purpose is known for their exciting shows! They are a 9-piece party band that know how to satisfy a diverse audience and keep them on the dance floor all night long! Dr. Ronald Barr of BC Children’s Hospital has said that he “could not have asked for a better display of musicianship, with all of the excitement and entertainment that a quality soul ensemble can provide.” They are best known for their renditions of songs by Aretha Franklin, Tina Turner, The Temptations, Marvin Gaye, Christina Aguilera, Adele, and Stevie Wonder. With two dynamic female lead vocalists, funky organ, awesome bass, rhythmic beats, searing guitar and blazing hot horn section, there is never a dull moment! In fact, half of the band sings, so if you’re looking for variety, Soul Purpose definitely knows how to serve it up. “You just can’t help but feel good when they play,” says Drew Snider of Translink.

 

Tony Youssef, Drums

The "heartbeat of the band, Tony has been playing drums for over 40 years. Starting at an early age, he took lessons, which he used to sharpen his technique. He has an absolute passion for the drums that transcends his playing.

 

Bill Nuttall, Bass Guitar

One of the founding members of Soul Purpose, he is the man that "puts the Boom in the Room". Bill has been playing Bass for many years. In fact, He used to play in a band with Mike Reno (just prior to "Loverboy").

Victor Yong, Lead Guitar and Background vocals

Victor has been performing since 1980. His love of all music enabled him to play in every type of genre including Latin, Hard Rock, Polka, light Jazz, Motown, Country and Asian Pop music.

Mike Krawchuk, Tenor / Alto Saxophones, Lead and Background vocals

Mike joined his first band in 1977 and has been a member of Soul Purpose for almost 25 years. He loves R & B, Blues, Rock & Jazz and plays the Tenor, Alto, Soprano & Bari Saxophones.

Brian Bird, Keyboards, Lead and Background vocals

Brian's been on the keys since he had to reach up over his head to touch them.  

He started out performing in Vancouver Jazz venues, and worked  steadily as a keyboardist vocalist in the top 40 pub circuit.  Music stayed alive while Brian grew his daytime career as a software engineer, performing corporate events with Keith Bennet's Mothers of Convention.  He i

Adrian Smith, Trumpet

Adrian has an amazing range and his high notes astound. He has a wealth of  experience with bands in town and has travelled the world performing on cruise ships.
 

Carol Pedersen, Lead and Background vocals

Carol brings many years of musical training in piano, brass instruments and guitar to the band. Her extensive vocal training is evident as her voice can suit many styles of music from classical, jazz, blues, gospel to pop and R & B.  

 

Roxane Brown, Lead and Background vocals

Roxane has sung all over Vancouver, as well as California, New York and the Philippines. When not singing with Soul Purpose, you can find her singing anthems at Rogers Arena, Langley Events Center or BC Place for the BC Lions, Vancouver Canucks, Giants, Canadians and Warriors or working as a Registered Nurse.
